That is great news, however what about the client side (Not webmail)? Will we ever be able to integrate courier seemlessly into say MS Outlook to the point where the users would not know the difference between it and Exchange?

Obviously not, since Microsoft is not widely known for opening up their internal software protocols.

I'm not aware of any non-proprietary software that can pretend to be an Exchange server, to Outlook clients. The only software that I'm aware of that could do that is HP's OpenMail, developed under license from Microsoft, and HP discontinued that product earlier this year.

What about a plugin to Outlook? Steltor have an Outlook Plugin for their Calendaring which doesn't emulate an Exchange server but is selectable as an alternative. Then you configure an IMAP server, an SMTP server and the calendaring server. Once all this is done Outlook doesn't look different than if it was connected to an Exchange server.

Thats all we want - the users don't care about the back end - just the look and feel. I'm assuming that that is what David is refering to too.

I'd be disappointed if MS charge a licence fee to write software which plugs into Outlook using an existing mechanism. Its almost like charging companies to allow their web pages to be viewed in IE.

Thanks for the work on this, its much appreciated.

Mike
