Yes, me too. My mail was focused on a single detail without looking at the whole picture.

If the question is "How can I get rid of the delay?", than maybe my answer is right. But if the question is "What is best for my mta setup?", and that should be the question, than forget my message and look at Gordon's and Arno's answers.

About 1 year my primary MX for ~300 domains ran qmail without any patches. QMail in its standard distribution is not capable of rejecting mails on SMTP-Level. It first accepts any mail, and then checks if the email-address is valid, and if not, a Non-Delivery-Notification is generated.

Yes that was the main reason for me to switch from qmail to courier.
