I think the change should follow (if possible) the Java Memory Model,
and so affect concurrent threads if there are any happens-before
elements available.

However, I do believe that before getting to this optimization we
should be looking for the general solution and only after
benchmarking/profiling that one we should invest time in such
contextual optimizations.
I do not see this as an optimization, I see i as a hole in the
documentation. The optimizations we can do depend on the answer to the
question above.
