Rather than trying random solution for random problems, you should try to figure out what the problem is, instead of applying random fixes, hoping that one of them works.

Yes, well thank you for the troubleshooting methodology. I have failed (thus far) to "figure out what the problem is", even after numerous re-installs, after numerous re-installs on a fresh operating system, after numerous re- installs on a fresh operating system with the latest versions of all packages involved (and really, one could expect that it would work in that situation), and after trying out what seemed like logical (not random) possiblities.

Having failed (thus far) to find any mention of this particular issue, after reading thousands of archived email messages, after practically memorizing the docs included with the packages and having spent many hours searching the web, I finally resorted to joining this list and presenting the issue here in the hopes that I might be offered up a pearl of wisdom from those vaunted individuals who actually know the code that causes the software to do what it does (or doesn't in this case).

What never ceases to amaze me, is the attitude that some developers have that anyone who uses their software should have the ability to get right in there and hack away to fix the problems. "After all, the source is right there".

Frankly, if most of us could do that, we wouldn't need the developers. Simply because we don't fix your code for you and then "submit a patch" doesn't mean that we are incompetent or stupid. I've used yours and Ken's packages for a couple years now (and been quite happy with them) and this is the first time that I've been well and truly stumped. I haven't used Bruce Guenter's packages for as long, as I only began using Redhat less than a year ago.

Another thing that amazes me, is how one can produce such a comprehensive package, and yet when following the installation instructions to the letter, it fails to work. On a fresh install, on a fresh OS, after following the instructions to the letter...it doesn't work. And this is Redhat, not BSD or Solaris. Arguably the most used *nix today.

At any rate, I'll keep on with my quest for a solution, and as usual I will probably find it, with or without help. It just bothers me that two packages which claim to work together still requires me to spend dozens of hours to get it to work.
