Thanks for the info. My last question then is if I have 4,500 unique visits in a week, is that 4,500 people (or different ip addresses) seeing my gadget off their igoogle page or 4,500 people actually using the gadget by clicking it and seeing the contents??

Hi PJ,

The number of views is probably the less relevant of the two metrics, because every page reload or refresh counts as a new page view. Unique visitors should be roughly analogous to the real number of users that you have, but if I remember properly, is associated with the IP address of the user. Users with dynamic IPs, or who connect via multiple computers might trigger multiple "unique" views. The real number of active users should be slightly lower than the number of unique views.

The gadget had massively increased the number recorded visits to the site but I can't understand exactly what it is reporting on.

For example:

It shows /traveleygadget as having received 8,461 page views and 4,855 unique views for the last week.

Does this mean the gadget has been seen on a users igoogle page 8,461 from 4,855 different people or does it mean 4,855 people have actually used the gadget from their igoogle page resulting in 4,855 pageviews???

Despite the above stats, the user count for my gadget displays sometimes as 709 users using the gadget and sometimes I login and it shows <100 using the gadget.

Any help would greatly appreciated as i'm more confused than ever with these reported stats.
