Because the current Ant build is broken like the old Maven 1 system was? It is still usable but it has grown and evolved and vast amount of incomprehensibility and entropy has entered into the system.
Not that it wouldn't be cool to have a build on Gant or Gradle, but I miss to see a real good reason to make that effort and switch -- furthermore I don't want to switch build system every year :-)
This thinking leads us to not having changed from the Maven 1 build exactly as many people argued then.
Change for change's sake is a bad idea. Change where there is a genuine gain should be supported and fostered. Currently we have members of the Groovy team who love Maven and those who abhor it. Everyone agrees Ant is like trying to program a payroll system in assembly language. It seems a third way is needed and we have two.
