Sir, you are a genius. courier clear did the trick! Thank you for the
informative message. And yes, I know, something always changes :-) I think
it's spring allergies - no one said the servers are immune!

I'd love to learn more about the actual problem I encountered. What exactly did
I clear? I am guessing the mail queue for my user. What happened to the
messages in it? Why did it get backed up in the first place? (The last message
I successfully received came about 40 hours ago.) Would it happen because one
of the folders got extremely large?

Something always has changed, often though it's something that seems so unrelated that it shouldn't interfere. But it does. Such is the life of a sysadmin...

The 4xx errors would not clear for an hour or so unless you manually clear them as shown above...

I recommend always staying on the latest version of Courier (0.53.1 right now) and keeping up to date with Fedora releases, these are general recommendations though and probably unrelated to your issues.
