I've been slowly configuring additional functionality in my Courier (43.0) installation, including authenticated and encrypted IMAP and ESMTP. I have not had any trouble at all using the IMAP-SSL service over port 993 but I'm experiencing some problems with ESMTP-SSL on 465. In particular, this is happening when I'm in a corporate environment. I find that in most cases -- locally, over internet dial-up connections, etc -- it works fine. So I have tried changing the esmtp-ssl port to 8080, thinking that perhaps the port was blocked at the firewall, but even that didn't work.

I have also attempted tunnelling 465 through ssh, but I'm not entirely aware of what other ports may be required in each direction, so I can't really say that this should or shouldn't work. I can observe the couriersmtp and couriertls processes start and show activity, but the message never seems to make it in.

It is also possible that this is a client issue, since I'm using the IMAP functionality from within Mozilla... so I've still got the task of trying other clients on my list.

Any suggestions or pointers -- no not middle fingers, thank you -- are appreciated.

Bill
