Hi

you should use MySQL coupled with an intranet server... Instead of having Access has the front end, build your client interface as a web app with ASP or PHP...

Nothing to buy, nothing to deploy (if IE already installed)... Much more powerful, quicker and easier to maintain, secure, trace, and so on...

Ok I know there will probably be some biased answers here but objective responses would be preferred :-)

I'm currently part way through designing a database that will definitely use Access as its front end to keep track of various parts of my fledgling business. The decision I'm trying to make is whether I should be using Access to store the data or MySQL. In both cases the files themselves (and naturally the MySQL server) would be running on an identical machine elsewhere on the network.

What is my best option for this in terms of speed of data access, space required for the files, future expansion etc?

Any thoughts gratefully received.
