hi, thanks for your reply.

But there are no diagonal lines drawn, and that's the problem, I have no idea how the whole area got broken into bits. Could it possibly be because I rotated other textures? Now even the floors are broken into triangles but without lines! I have no idea how this happened...

What happens when you delete the diagonal? Do the wall loose its face? If not, try rotating the texture again. If yes, the edges are not coplanar. This needs to be fixed first. Move one of the vertices so that all four corners of the walls surface (assuming there are four) are coplanar. Next delete the diagonal and proceed with texture.
