Hi Bob,
I've gotten word that this problem should be fixed in Gmail now. Please let me know if you continue having issues.
Thanks, ~Arne

Hi Bob,
Do you have any gmail-specific firefox extensions installed? (better gmail, etc). If so, please try disabling them temporarily to see if they may be causing this problem. Also, if you are running firebug in gmail, can you try to disable it and see if the symptoms continue?
Thanks, ~Arne

The best I can tell, I believe the following individuals MAY also be having the same (or similar) problems:

Zathmanhttp://groups.google.com/groups/profile?enc_user=5w12UjEAAACxWGU3e-PI...
Again, I can't really vouch that each of these individual's issues are caused by the same problem. The best that I can tell, from being a Google Groups observer, is that these individuals are the most likely candidates to be having the same problem as me, and not the OTHER indefinite "Loading..." problem which I believe has already been resolved (note, this was a problem I never had.)
I think the tricky thing with this problems (and others like it) is that it seems that ANY critical JavaScript error that happens after the "Loading..." message appears can give the same basic symptoms, even if the problems are completely unrelated. Also, I think this particular problem is ACCOUNT SPECIFIC. I can login with a test account and experience absolutely no problems. So, I think there is an AJAX call that is being made and it is not getting the data it is expecting to see and, as a result, this is generating a JavaScript error which is then keeping the "Loading..." message up indefinitely... never loads the SETTINGS... and even further prevents certain JavaScript-based clicks from being successful. Gmail must be re-loaded to get back to a normal working state.
This is why I think it may be tied to the fact that I am a member of the Orkut development sandbox, because this fact seemed to contribute to a JavaScript problem in Google Reader a while back. Of course, there could be other unique aspects to my account which are contributing to the problem... but the Orkut development sandbox is my only solid lead at this point.
Thanks for looking into this.

Hi Bob,
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this problem - I'll be working with the Gmail team to try and find a solution.
Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

I experiencing a Yellow Loading Message of Death in Google Reader a while back and it turns out it was due to the fact that my Google Account was signed up for the orkut sandbox for OpenSocial development and testing.
Well, now, I am getting a similar Yellow Loading Message of Death in Gmail. And, as it turns out, it is not happening in test accounts... it is only happening in the account I have signed up for the orkut sandbox for OpenSocial development and testing.
Looking further into it, here is the JavaScript error that is occurring which results in the YLMoD:
Line: 169 Char: 250 Error: %128`$root/prefs/uiprefs`ccclink%252F-2
1) This is not happening in the older UI for Gmail.
2) It happens in both FireFox and IE.
3) It does not happen with a test account which is NOT signed up for the orkut sandbox for OpenSocial development and testing.
4) It DOES happen with my account which is signed up for the orkut sandbox for OpenSocial development and testing.
5) It only happens when I try to visit the SETTINGS page, or view my existing filters.
