For what it is worth...
I have a setup where the cluster is across two different data centers. When
there are networking problems between the centers for a long enough period of
time, the cluster will go down. If you can get everything into one data center
where there is not a lot of networking issues, then it will help greatly. I
don't have that choice so we use other methods to check the cluster and deal
with it going down.

I also had to restart my ndb_mgm process in order to bring the nodes back online as well.
This scenario fits:
- heartbeat too slow due to high load on system - each node thinks other one is dead - each node asks arbitrator - ndb_mgmd was the only arbitrator but has died - each node crashes voluntarily
