Why dont you install from ports? it is not 1.6.1 version but I guess 1.5.2 would do good for startup too...I am using it in my FreeBSD 4-stable without any problems...

The version in the ports works just fine. I submitted a patch to update the port to 1.6.0 (and add support for compiling in ldap via the ports collection).

Thank you both for your input. I am trying out new software and the ports collection is always a bit behind. (That's the way it has to be, no offense intended.)

I was just reporting the compilation problem with 1.6.1. The previous version 1.6.0 compiles just fine. As reported by Gregers Petersen, the same problem appears to bother RedHat 7.3 at least, so there is something awry.

I will update the patch for 1.6.1 as well.

Paul, have you tried compiling 1.6.1 on your box?
