You're taking the long and bumpy road. I'm not sure it will work either since Spamassassin is creating the configuration files in the user's home directory, not it's current directory (which just happen to be the same in this case. Easier method: have a look at spamc and spamd's command line options:

One possible method might be to use SQL based prefs...
