I have got a problem sending mail to some hosts, like web.de, yahoo.com, yandex.ru, narod.ru... The problem appears when the client mail server i.e. mine at the end of DATA put dot-symbol but does not receive confirmation that the mail is accepted for local delivery. Disconnection is followed by time out. Some hosts accept mail for delivery without ending dot. Some not. But if the remote mail server accepted this mail letter, mine does not know about it and send the mail again in a while!!! I thought that the problem was in firewall... no -> without it the same. I tried other software (patched and not): sedmail, postfix... on other computers... no difference! The inet speed is 128 and no servers on it except mail. In front of it Cisco 1600 Series and then hdsl (provider's) modem, today 1024Kbit/s must happen. I will try to sniffer today. But can someone help me to solve this problem - I don't know where to seek for answer... A month and a half it was ok.
