Either spelling is fine with me. I just need the structure! :-)
I concur that we should probably use the most familiar spelling for the element name.
Best regards,

a. Norm to add acknowledgements element to 5.0.
There may be an issue regarding "acknowledgement" versus "acknowledgment". I realize that the online docbook documentation at http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/documentation/reference/html /docbook.h tml uses the former, and I personally prefer the former, since one would ordinarily think the g is hard in the latter.
However, I feel obliged to point out that it appears to be a substantial majority of uses prefer the former spelling. In
Sigh, typo, I meant prefer the latter (2e) spelling.

fact, if you look up "acknowledgement" at http://www.m-w.com/ you get sent to the entry for "acknowledgment" (where it lists "acknowledgement" as a variant) and a search of the online Chicago Manual of Style at http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/ shows only the "acknowledgment" spelling.
We may find that most users will expect the 2e (instead of 3e) spelling. Of course, use of a smart editor can obviate this issue, but those entering DocBook via Notepad might be surprised.
