I hate do this on the list, but since the comment was made there...
It is not because Perl is the superior language...far from it...I would never make that sort of judgement. I personally much perfer Ruby, but the fact remains that we (RsShape) are a Perl shop, we do everything in Perl and therefore you cannot substitute Ruby/Python/Shell for Perl expertise at ReShape. Please note as you reread my original message for clarity, I was speaking of a skill set not the actual merits of a given language.
As another comment: Merits of a language are not all that make a particular language better or worse - environment of use plays an even larger role. So yes, Ruby will not do...and in fact is inferior to Perl for the tasks which we preform.
I prefer to think of programming and scripting as an artistic expression. The language is a tool of expression, not the actual expression...For some things, Visual Basic is the best choice of expression (what that would be, I cannot imagine).

Uh-oh - this is just too much for me to resist.... Maybe you should learn something about Ruby before saying 'it won't cut it.' Particularly compared to Perl - and >definitely< when you refer to "OO" Perl programming. <rofl> OO Perl. That's a good one.

Sorry if this offends anyone on the list...
We are looking for a junior to mid level person to take over the day-to-day operation and maintenance of our CM duties here at ReShape, Inc. (http://www.reshape.com).
The job duties will include heavy Perl scripting skills (yes, Perl is a must. Python, Ruby or plain shell scripting skills will not cut it), integrating our defect tracking tool Sesame ExtraView with our Perforce installation(s), build our source code daily and doing releases, merging code lines, writing triggers, doing Perforce/ExtraView support, and a variety of other activities.
