Installing the authentication daemon will create and maintain persistent connections to the database back-end, for account authentication. This is covered in INSTALL.

That's how it's supposed to work in theory. Can't say how well it works in practice, though...

I've been looking at courier doco, browsed some sources, but I cant find an answer to the following question:

Is courier, at this stage, able to route email using LDAP lookup of user data (POP/IMAP password can be retrieved in a LDAP directory, but I was not able to find by myself if local delivery can be handled by using a LDAP dir).

I'm looking at something close to qmail-ldap www.nrg4u.com. (Courier appealed me about 'newer design than qmail' especially SMTP bandwidth hog of qmail when delivering the same message to a lot of recipient at one domain, fairly common case nowadays..)
