I thought initially that the error messages and data loss I mentioned in my prior post were just from the transition from inline to non- inline, but a user just told me that 1) only 1 of several instances of my gadget was affected on his iGoogle page, and 2) it was fine until last week (a couple weeks after I changed it from inline to non- inline). So the problem is ongoing, but I don't think there's anything in my gadget that could have caused it.

I'm getting emails from lots of distressed users wondering what happened to their To-Do Lists. Some used it to store crucial data. One guy told me he had just arrived in France and expected to be able to pull up his To-Do List data, but since it wasn't working, he didn't have some important information he needed (itinerary information, I assume). It pains me to be related to human problems of loss and inconvenience, but I don't think there's anything I can do about it without some insight from the Gadgets team.

Help!

Hi,

This is my
gadget:http://mostlycloudy.net/~dnl2ba/subpages/gdir-test/tasklist.xmlhttp://www.google.com/ig/directory?hl=en&url=mostlycloudy.net/~dnl2ba...

I recently updated it, and in the process, made it so it's no longer inline. It runs fine for me in an iframe, but some users are reporting horrific error messages. For example: "The message I am still getting on IE is the standard 'can't display that page'--the message you get when you are not connected to the 'net. On Firefox I get a dramatic 'ERROR' message where the to-do list should be. 'BAD REQUEST'"

I think this is happening for a *lot* of users. The number of users dropped overnight from 46,000 to 35,000. Other users reported data loss.

Does this ring any bells? It suppose it could be a bug on my end, but I can't reproduce it for the life of me (and I've tried IE6, IE7, FF2, FF3b3, Opera 9.5b, and Safari 3 on 2 different Google accounts on 2 different computers). Could it be related to the switch from inline to iframes?

Just an update. The gadget in question is working again.

Hi Dan,

The following gadget was also created *before* the first depreciation attempt. But I'm getting the *not supported* message: "Sorry, this gadget uses the inlining feature, which is no longer supported."

Please let me know if this can be fixed or not.

Regards Michel

Hey gadget developers,

I'd like to announce that as of this morning, we officially re-enabled the deprecation of inlined gadgets.  Some of you may remember that we tried turning this on the week before Christmas last month, but we ran into a few issues and had to revert the change.  Now that it's turned back on, here's the current status of what this means:

-- Inlined gadgets created *before* the first deprecation attempt (Wed, 2007/12/19) are supported and will continue to render. -- Any inlined gadgets created the first deprecation attempt (Wed, 2007/12/19) are *not* supported and will display this message when rendered: "Sorry, this gadget uses the inlining feature, which is no longer supported."

Many of you may have legitimate reasons as to why you'd want to create a new inlined gadget.  However, please understand that this deprecation is final and that we cannot accept any requests at this time to make an exception for your case.  Hopefully we provided enough information and forewarning about this.

As always, we'd be happy to answer any questions/comments you may have.

Thanks!
