Hello
I am trying to install MYSQL on my system.
Problem: When I type "bin/safe_mysqld &", I am receiving the following:
[1]458 [root@warrior mysql_version]Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /usr/local/mysql_version/data mysql daemon end
Pressing <ENTER> results in [1]Done bin/safe_mysqld
At this point , I recieve a normal command prompt.
MYSQL Version: mysql-3.22.23b-pc-linux-gnu-i686
Software: Red Hat 5.2 Linux
Hardware: Pentium 233, 64M Ram, Harddrive mounting configuration: 100M Linux Swapper 100M / 1000M /usr 20M /home
Additional comments: I have installed MYSQL both ways using the binary and RPM. I have also modified the path to include "/usr/local/mysql" along with performing a reboot. Typed "bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'new password' and received the following: bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Cant't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/tmp/mysql.sock' exist!
I checked if "/tmp/mysql.sock" existed and it DIDN'T.
Could you tell me in the installation process where the file is created?
If there are any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to ask. Thanks for any help you can give me.
Regards Pat Dumalanta
