Scott:
The following are the standard formats for citing various legal sources:

Examples:

2. Books and Treatises
{author}, {volume number} {title} {cited subdivision and/or page} ({publisher} {edition} {year}).
Roger J. Magnuson, 2 <em>Shareholder Litigation</em> S 15.02 at 4 (Callaghan 1984).
James J. White and Robert S. Summers, <em>Handbook of the Law under the Uniform Commercial Code</em> S 14-6 at 563 (West 2d ed 1980).
David Kairys, ed, <em>The Politics of Law</em> 14 (Pantheon 1982).
3. Articles
{author}, {title}, {volume number} {periodical} {1st page}, {cited page} ({date}).
Examples:
Herbert Wechsler, <em>Toward Neutral Principles of Constitutional Law</em>, 73 Harv L Rev 1, 9 (1959).
Kurt Eichenwald, <em>Law Firm's Offer Perplexes Prudential Investors</em>, NY Times C2 (Aug 29, 1994).
4. Constitutions
{state or country} Const {subdivisions}.
Examples:
US Const Art I, S 9, cl 2.
NM Const Art IV, S 7.
US Const Amend XIV, S 2.
5. Statute (Codified)
{(optional) name of act} {(on first reference) "popular name" (or) "abbreviation"}, {title or volume number} {codification} {subdivision} ({publisher if unofficial codification} {year}).
Examples:
National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), 29 USC SS 151-69 (1982).
Subdivided Lands Act, Cal Bus & Prof Code S 11000 (West 1964).
6. Statute (Original Act)
{name of act} {(on first reference) "popular name" (or) "abbreviation"} {Pub L No xx-yy (if available)}, {source} ({year of passage}), codified at {citation to codification}.
National Environmental Policy Act, Pub L No 91-190, 83 Stat 853 (1970), codified at 42 USC S 4332 (1994).
Act of May 28, 1981, 1981 Minn Laws 1307, to be codified at Minn Laws S 260.
I have included the <em></em> tags solely for the purpose of showing presentation characteristics. They are not literally part of the pertinent formats.
If you require anything else, do not hesitate to ask. Please pass this message on to other members of the subcommittee.
Best wishes,
Gary
