You need the latest version of the MM.MySQL JDBC driver. At least 2.0 or
later.
Try following the link at http://www.gjt.org/~mm

Hello:
I have been trying to find solution for this problem. This message keeps
popping up in the browser. I am
calling three different frames calling three different servlets, each
opening connection to the database and
then closing it. Sometimes more than two frames open connection to the
database and try to access the
same table. Could the problem because of this?
Here is the error message:
java.sql.SQLException message given: Communication link failure:
java.net.SocketException
Where could the problem? I have been trying to find the fix for this but
to no luck. Here is my setup
details:
1) Red Hat Linux release 6.0 Publisher's Edition (Hedwig)
Kernel 2.2.5-15 on an i686
2) mysql Ver 9.31 Distrib 3.22.20a, for pc-linux-gnu (i686)
3) mm.mysql.jdbc-1.2b (JDBC)
4) Apache1.3.12
5) Tomcat 3.1
