It looks like the FlamboyantTree seed pod, Delonix regia, native to Madagascar but planted world wide in warmer parts. The seed pod is known in the West Indies as a Shak-Shak, and can be used as a musical/percussion instrument.

Dear Taxacomers I have a mystery pod that has stumped me - no history, no determination, no data, just "found in the collections" - can anyone enlighten me, please? Pictures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/45069430@N03/ Many thanks Tony Irwin
