Rick,

Sorry, I was interrupted after I uploaded that and didn't get a chance to post a message about it.

First, you may be interested to know that the industry standard for dimensioning and tolerancing on Engineering drawings, ASME Y14.5M - 1994, requires that all numerals--both integers and fractions--should be a single character height. So what what you're asking for, at least according to the ASME standard, is non-standard. However, SU developers, before you start getting too pleased with yourselves, you should know that the standard also requires the bar on common fractions be horizontal, not diagonal.

In any event Rick, virtually all True Type and Open Type fonts include characters for ¼, ½, and ¾. The picture I uploaded uses Verdana. http://groups.google.com/group/SketchUp/web/214.jpg

These fractions are part of the Windows/ANSI extended character set and can be accessed using Alt-numeric keypad combinations. These three fractions are, respectively, Alt-0188, Alt-0189, and Alt-0190. There are other specialty fonts available that consist entirely of common fractions.

The bad news is that SU does not use those characters automatically. I had to edit the dimension text to replace the 1/4 with ¼. That means that dimensions that have been doctored to use the fraction characters are no longer associative. I don't think it's worth the tradeoff.

Frankly, I think the dimensioning feature in SU is pretty weak. I particularly hate the arrowheads, which are way too squat. ASME Y14.2 requires arrow heads to be 3:1, length to width. SU arrowheads are more like 1.5:1.
