I'd love to switch to using it, but I can't justify that if it's a closed server that other jabber users have to be using to talk to me. :( What does "we're working on it" mean? Most every jabber server out there is cross compatible.

Again, STFW. I know it's in the archives, because I asked it (and wasn't the first, just somehow missed it in the archives). The problem is the sheer scale of Google's implementation. Nobody's run a Jabber server quite as large scale or as visibly as Google.

Last thing, it would be really nice for you to add off-the-record deniably authenticated strong encryption with perfect forward secrecy.

Many Jabber clients already implement this. Example:
