You can use the --without-authdaemond option, however some drivers require authdaemond, so the configuration may fail. You'll need to manually disable those drivers as well: --without-authldap, --without-authmysql, etc...

I don't see any benefit in doing so, though. You are not really gaining anything by that.

Only one benefit - I don't need to install an "unneccessary" service on the bastion machine. The less that is up there, the less can be broken into. As

authdaemond does not listen on any network port. Nobody can break into authdaemond until they've already broken into your machine.

What do you mean when you say that some "drivers" require authdaemond. What sort of drivers?

authldap and authmysql.
