Your shared folders will always be listed under the "shared" namespace, just as your personal mailbox namespace is "INBOX." E.g.

isn't that just the case for filesystem-permission based shared folders? anyway, there's no shared folder to be seen, neither under 'shared' nor anywhere else.

I did find a workaround: placing a shared-maildirs file in the Maildir of any user who needs access to the shared folder. because I use vpopmail and thus any user has the same system user/group id, this works w/o any further modifications.

however, it still would be nice to get the virtual shared folder approach working, so that ACLs actually do have any effect.

thanks, - Dave.

Subscriptions:

INBOX - Drafts - Sent - Trash shared - Shared Folder 1 - Shared Folder 2

where "Shared Folder 1|2" are the names you've given to your shared folders. If you don't get the "shared" namespace, something in your config isn't set up correctly.

Andy.

Nope, the shared folders do not show up in the subscription window. my understanding is that they should be listed under 'other users'.

thanks, - Dave.

Hi David,

I did get shared folders working about a year ago, but I'm too rusty to be of much help. Just checking though, have you subscribed to the shared folder?

In the Subscriptions window in thunderbird, you should get "INBOX" (under which are your personal folders) and "shared" (under which are your shared folders.) If you don't get that, then yep something is amiss in your config.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

hi all,

I am trying to set up a virtual shared imap folder where every user can put spam messages not recognized by spamassassin, in order to use them periodically for sa-learn.

I followed the howto found at http://www.courier-mta.org/imap/?README.sharedfolders.html :

* added the following line to /usr/lib/courier-imap/etc/shared.tmp/index: [tab]spam@domain.com[tab]0[tab]0[tab]/home/vpopmail/domains/domain.com/spamuser[tab]

* installed the file with /usr/lib/courier-imap/sbin/sharedindexinstall

* set up the acl for spam@domain.com with /usr/lib/courier-imap/bin/maildiracl -set /home/vpopmail/domains/domain.com/spamuser/Maildir INBOX anyone +aceilrstwx

just to be sure I even restarted imapd. it doesn't barf anything (no error messages of any kind get logged), but the supposedly shared folder does not show up in thunderbird. What am I doing wrong??

I am using courier-imap 4.1.2 on debian sarge.

thanks! - Dave.
