I ordered a new $500 Compaq P/166 from PCMicroWarehouse at 10 PM last night, it may show as soon as today. This makes for my second test machine, the first one (386/33) is too bloody slow to long term testing on (in particular, if it involves a full build).

It's first mission will be to test the network install of -stable. Questions:

1) Jordan, got the URL of a boot floppy to launch me, or aren't any built for the new release yet?

I'm not Jordan, but I'm answering anyway :-)

ftp://releng22.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/2.2.6-980315-BETA/floppies/boot.flp

is the newest one available as I write this message; if it takes time before you use this, try upgrading the date.

2) I'm open to suggestions for a cheap Plug'n'Pray PCI Ethernet card that I can pick up locally (CompUSA/Computer City). (PNP is now supported in stable, yes?)

PnP is supported only for a single Ethernet card - the Trust Ethernet Combo, which is an NE2000 clone. I don't think the code has been merged to -stable - I wrote it, and I have been having some problems with that card under -STABLE, so I would really hope not.

So far, the PCI version of the card seem to be running OK. From my supplier, the PCI version is $2 more expensive than the PnP version, so it is really a much better buy.

Eivind.
