I agree to this analysis. Phonetically not confusing, and disallowing all names that has a "pic", "ture", "pho", "to", "im", "age" in a photo/picture/image system (since they are used one place or the other) is too strict. If the proposal for instance was "Pickata", "Pikala", or otherwise phonetically very similar, I would think the concern is substantiated.
And let's not forget that the masot for the O'Reilly book is obvious (s/c/k) but you might have to be a hiker/climber to catch that book. Either that, or be familiar with Pokemon :)
