Hmmm found another problem with GD 5.5 - it doesn't work with Firefox 2.0.0.7 ! A number of other people seem to be have the same issue: http://groups.google.co.uk/group/Google-Desktop_Something-Broken/browse_thread/thread/aef9c185e082623c/987b69baae3a6290?hl=en&lnk=gst&q=the+connection+was+reset&rnum=5#987b69baae3a6290
For now I'm going back to 5.1, such a shame as I was looking forward to playing with all those new 5.5 features in my gadgets.

Thanks for the tip - but it didn't help. The "build package" option in the designer has never worked for me (even back on GD 5.1) it has always reported a "cannot write to file" error and creates a 1Kb empty gg file. I had just assumed this was a bug in the designer, and always zipped and renamed my .gg files myself.
It might been because I've had a number of versions of GD on this laptop installed/uninstalled/reinstalled over the years, thats the only thing I can think of... Ben

I was working on a gadget with no problem just now, and I wanted to change the file names. I closed the designer and changed the name of the folder where the gadget is stored and the .gg file. When I went to open up the designer now I got this error. I then tried rebuilding the .gg package, closed and reopened the gadget designer and the error was gone. Give it a try. --Glenn.

Hmmmm
Just downloaded it again ... exactly the same error.
It only happens if I have Google Deskop running, if I shut it down
then the designer loads without error.
The designer is v1.0.0704.17595
And the version of Google Desktop is v5.5.0709.30344
Here is a screenshot of the error message

I don't experience any problems running the old SDK. Try redownloading the SDK. --Glenn

Excellent news. I really like the sound of the new features. however is seems that the "old" 5.1 SDK designer doesn't work with 5.5; I get an error at startup referring to the entry point in DLL GoogleDesktopCommon.dll. Looks like I'm going to have to revert to 5.1 until the new SDK is released. Unless there is an easy fix for this?
