I tried vinum (RAID1) with 5.1-R on E250 last year and it wasn't stable enough for production then. I don't know the current situation, but I'd still rely on hardware RAID...maybe others have better experience.

Did anybody ever reply to this?

I am also interested in a decent software raid solution for freebsd/sparc64.

I heard there might be some problem with disklabels but i havent got a chance to try either ccd or vinum yet.

Any more information would be appreciated,

Thanks,

ivo, ireland.

Hi folks!

Just got FreeBSD running on both my E250 and also my SunfireV120. I'm loving it. Much better than that Solaris stuff :)

Quick question for folks on the mailing list:

Are any of you running software RAID? I'd like to setup some RAID-1 with hotspare drives on both my boxes. Is ccd or vinum better for this? For the folks using one or the other, what significant, if any system overhead/problems has using either of these pieces of software caused? TYIA!
