Oh no -- it's a compile-time option?! :-(

Is there no way to change the behavior during run-time?

I don't want to recompile the package each time the package is updated by the Debian package maintainers. In fact, I *can't* (at least not without MASSIVE troubles) recompile the package because I don't have a development machine that has the same architecture as the production server. :-(

You could use pkgsrc. It has quarterly stable releases, both source tree and compiled binary packages.

Thanks for suggesting this, but unfortunately for policy reasons this is not an option.

Is it not possible to cross compile packages on Leenox?

Sure. :-)

But as I wrote earlier, this would mean a LOT of trouble and efforts for me -- which I can't spend.

Thanks,

Ralf
