Subject:[PEAR-DEV] pear.php.net is down / disk errors

Hi,

pear.php.net is down.

The server was really slow, even "sudo bash" or "top" gave me errors most of the time.

/var/log/messages showed disk errors:

kernel: ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0 kernel: ata1.00: BMDMA stat 0x24 kernel: ata1.00: cmd 25/00:08:ae:ce:fa/00:00:11:00:00/e0 tag 0 dma 4096 in kernel: res 51/01:00:ae:ce:fa/01:00:11:00:00/e0 Emask 0x1 (device error) kernel: ata1.00: status: { DRDY ERR } kernel: ata1.00: configured for UDMA/133 kernel: ata1: EH complete kernel: SCSI device sda: 312500000 512-byte hdwr sectors (160000 MB) kernel: sda: Write Protect is off kernel: SCSI device sda: drive cache: write back

The file systems were mounted read-only.

Backups of the rest data (released packages) were done every 4 hours to the mirror servers (of which I have one, de.pear.php.net).

The last database backup was from 2015-03-05, which is long ago. I made a copy of the files in /var/lib/mysql; we'll see what we can rescue.

Then I rebooted the box to see if it's really that bad, and it is. It's not up again, and probably will not come up. I'm contacting EUKhost support right now.

----

You can use a mirror; change your /etc/hosts file to map pear.php.net to IP 5.35.241.22 (de.pear.php.net).

----

Using the "preferred_mirror" setting will NOT work as pear will still try to download files from pear.php.net:

$ pear config-set preferred_mirror de.pear.php.net $ pear install $package Could not download from "http://pear.php.net/get/Net_Wifi-1.2.0.tgz", cannot download "pear/net_wifi" (Connection to `pear.php.net:80' failed:
Connection timed out) Error: cannot download "pear/Net_Wifi"
