Hi Chris (and all),
I have been talking on and off with Eric for the past month or two about taking the template administrator job. I've been trying to put together a good vision for what the templates should accomplish before deciding on the best way to move forward - which would then be put forward to the group for feedback.
I'll throw together some theory stuff and post it soon, but in the meantime - if there are any comments, suggestions or ideas for templates in Quanta that would be great.
I've done work with a few different kinds of template systems over the years dealing with html and page construction, so I have a good working knowledge and some best practices we've discovered along the way. Since my non-existant (except for two courses on it) C++ skills are rusty, this gives me a good way to get involved and help out Quanta.
Feel free to contact me on this, or just post ideas to the list.
Thanks
Bill (Vuud on #quanta)

Hi all, I was inspired to take a break from work an do this. I'm doing good in 2004. I got over the ear infection and now have a painful stiff and swollen right knee. I guess I'm on my last legs. ;-)
I thought I'd get the discussion going here on what to do with Quanta. I have mixed feelings. Over all I'm happy it's so well received and has made such great strides... I'm also really frustrated that so much more I wanted to do didn't make it into 3.2. That's okay. Heres what we will want to do.
1) Look at a good time to introduce decent feature enhancements for a BE release for 3.2 and KDE 3.1 users. My guess is we may want to do this by early Feb but the first thing is to see 1A) what we really feel we need to change after release that can be done quickly 1B) what new features are coming along that might be released like debugging or VPL updates 1C) a generally desirable release situation
2) We need to look at releasing a 3.3 release prior to KDE 3.3. This means we need to determine the feature set we consider worth a full release and the date as well as supplemental issues like if we branch CVS to keep it clean and how long we test. My inclination is some time between April and August.
Uh... I'm confused. If Quanta and assoc. aren't being released with KDE, then shouldn't it be in kdenonbeta or extragear? Not to mention translations will be kinda messy.
3) We need to begin planning for our next official release with KDE.
The attached Knowit file is not meant to be complete but a start and everyone is invited to edit and resubmit it.

Weeee! This is a fun week! :-D
First off, I want to hit templates, since they're the most there-but-not-there feature. A contest would be wonderful. Whatever the details, they can be discussed later. Only thing I would really recommend is requiring them to be placed in the public domain via creative commons for obvious reasons.
That's all I've got, since I just woke. :-)
Everything else looks great!
