I'll bet you spammers just hijacked that email & they didn't use your
sever as
the relay. Have your friend look at the email header & see where the
email was actually relayed from - prolly not you.
Having had my personal email hijacked as well as bogus usernames from my
various mail domains hijacked it's ugly & there's nothing you can do but
get ready for a LOT of bounces.

Hi all,
I have a new courier install going here. I got an email from a friend
saying
he got a virus from my server.
The email's return address was adm...@longboys.net. I don't have an admin
account at all. I have my server set up to relay for authenticated users
only. I did some testing by manually connecting to the smtp port. It
seems
my courier setup doesn't check the validity of the sender(mail from:) if
the
recipient is on the same domain(rcpt to).
Is there a configuration setting set up either a) verify the helo/ehlo
ip
address b) verify local sender account exists
I'm sure I saw an option somewhere in this last hazy two weeks that
provided
for an option to verify the helo/ehlo ip address, but i'll be darned if
i
can find it.
thanks in advance,
bill
