Ok.. there was a problem in the authldaprc. I changed the LDAP_BASEDN to ou=people,dc=example,dc=com.

Hmmm ... this shouldn't make any difference.

Now before changing this setting the authtest bammbamm bam_secret (whr bam_secret is his passwd) was returning Authentication FAILED: Input/Output error. But now it is giving Authentication FAILED: Operation not permitted.

This would tend to indicate that the user isn't binding correctly with his password.

1: If your LDAP server is running at loglevel 256 (stats) examine the slapd log to get an indication as to why; 2: If you have a proxy user for LDAP with full rights to read passwords, put him into authldaprc and let him authenticate the user:

LDAP_BINDDN cn=proxyuser, dc=example,dc=com LDAP_BINDPW proxyuserpassword

But it is authenticating fine for the System Accounts.

Such as ... ?
