Can you upload to the Warehouse? If you can, try posting it up and then downloading it from there - this may be a workaround to solve the immediate problem of having a copy.

Another approach could be (and you may have tried this), open another file that you have already saved, duplicate it, then copy and paste your new model into it - if this saves correctly, then simply ditch the old model from the layout and keep the new one.
