See "Authentication modules", "Confirming selected authentication options", and "Configure ESMTP authentication and SSL" in INSTALL. There's plenty of avaiable documentation.

that say how to make such a thing work. Because for me, it does _NOT_ authenticate to any users in the mysql users table when I use 'even the latest' email clients that support authentication through smtp.
