Today the syslog output the following onto the terminal:

courieresmtpd: 35 active connections

That it was important enough to be written to the terminal suggests this may be serious. Is it?

Also, I've noticed that since upgrading to 0.47 the teergrube works a little different. With 0.45.4, I think that the 8 second delay didn't kick in until after the first 5xx response, and I'm almost certain that it didn't kick in at all if you were sending from an authenticated client (I would test sending myself viruses occasionally and never saw the 8 second delay -- now with 0.47 I see it immediately).

My wild guess is that the new teergrubing is tying up connections longer, and that this has something to do with the "35 active connections" warning that I saw. Is this plausible? And what is the proper solution in this case?
