Hi Jay,
This is a really bad idea on today's Internet. You will get spammed like
crazy. The catch-all account will be so full of spam that no one will
want to sort through it to find the 1 or 2 emails that a legit user typed
and misspelled or guessed wrong on the To: address. Spammers will connect
to your server and try random addresses, if your server accepts all of
these it is a major waste of resources and a major hassle to keep up with.
No, it's actually not that bad. The thing is - I've been using such setup with
my domain's registrar
for years now. I'm getting virtually no spam like you're describing.
The major benefit for me is that whenever I have to give in some email on sites
requiring
subscription I just make up one like this...@mydomain.com. Now if I start
getting spam to this
specific address I know where spammers got it from. And I can turn it off any
time later.
So it's a great setup for one-time emails that requires no maintenance and just
works.
Is there really no way to implement this with Courier? I've switched to Courier
just recently for my
mail and learned to appreciate it's power already. Now I feel so splendid that I
just refuse to
believe it's impossible :) Rather I just think that I'm missing something in the
mountains of the
docs surrounding it.
