I untarred the tarball, and edited courier-imap.spec and
courier-imap.spec.in, removing the reference to fam-devel in the
BuildPreReq line, then re-built the tarball.
With this minor change the rpm is built without errors using the same
command as above.
FAM is optional, however it does provide for some value-added
functionality. In the event that the additional value-added functionality
is expected, the dependency provides a hint that the required prerequisites
are missing.
Furthermore, FAM's dependencies are only xinetd, portmap, and the standard
shared libraries; I don't see what the big deal with that is.
