This error looks more serious. I'd say that this confirms your
earlier message that *something* is broken on your box. But as for
what it is, I have no idea.
The glibc installed on the system is a different major revision than
the system's libraries were compiled against. It's almost certainly
the
reason that rpm crashes, and probably responsible for a host of other
problems that we don't know about.
I'd be surprised if the host survives a reboot. :(
I don't remember making any major changes to this server since the last
reboot. It's quite possible that there is something messed up with the
glibc install, but unless it has happened recently, which I doubt, it
doesn't affect the ability of the server to boot.
Based on all of the responses, it looks like I'm stuck with this version
of courier until I can rebuild the server.
