Hi,

The problems with freebsd and courier not being able to access the "/var/spool/courier/tmp/courierfilter.pid" file seem to have been solved by de-installing courier, deleting the courier spool directory tree, rebooting, re-installing fresh, rebooting. The key seems to have been the deletion of the spool directory. As I had done most of the steps many times over the last few days the key must have been messed up somehow.
