It does. It sounds very much like *you've* done something wrong; but what, I don't know. Perhaps you had an old version of courier-imap 3.x still installed, which comes with its own authdaemond and authdaemonrc.

Anyway, there are standard Unix tools for easily diagnosing these sorts of problems; in particular, 'strace' will show you all the system calls being made by a process, including all the files it opens and reads. If you edited /foo/authdaemonrc but you see the process opening and reading /bar/authdaemonrc, then you know exactly where the problem is.
