Platypus (http://platypus.pz.org) generates typeset PDF documents directly from text files containing embedded formatting commands (like TeX, but with emphasis on ease of use).

This Milestone 1 release contains basic features and is intended for use by early adopters who want a stable snapshot of the project. Features include:

* basic Type 1 fonts * bold, italics, underline, strikethrough * foreign characters (enough for French, German, Spanish) * left, center, right alignment and justified text * customizable page size * customizable margins * indented/unindented paragraphs * page number footer * debugging features

Milestone 2 is under active development.
