I guess my last question didn't make much sense, as I did not get any reply. I'll try again, rephrasing it ...

Given:

- a valid user

- using the same email client

- a stable network connection between client and server

- the Courier software is behaving as expected

Then:

- scarcity of tcp connection slots is the only reason why the mail client could not be able to connect to the tcp daemon running esmtdp?

- turning off dnslookups speeds the esmtpd logic making it less likely to hit this scarcity

Correct?

By scarcity, I include the calculations the tcp deamon does re: IP, class C network, and number of processes.

Last question: can Courier be configured to log a message when the tcp connection slots are filled and it has to reject a connection?

Thanks,

m
