I wonder if this could be fixed somehow at the IMAP level on the server?
That only effects accounts, not the default behavior of an account in
sub-folders. I called Microsoft and the "get unread message count" is
hard coded into Outlook 2000 and can not be turned off. They did not
decriment my number of free calls with Office, though, which is one of
the only positive things I can say about it...

Subject: [courier-users] Outlook "get folder unread count"
Hello -
A week ago I reported a problem checking messages in Outlook 2000 with
Courier IMAP and large accounts. With Outlook 2000 even if you uncheck
"check for messages in all folders" under Tools > accounts > properties
IMAP it downloads the unread message count for all folders. When
users have 500 megs of mail this causes problems with load and the time
it takes to check mail since it scans *every* folder every time send and
receive runs.
In Outlook XP there is a section under Tools > Options > Mail Setup >
Send/Receive... > goto Edit under "All accounts" > then a box that says,
"get folder unread count" - unchecking this works beautifully to restore
Outlook to only checking the inbox and not scanning all the other
folders.
Please, I have searched hard for Outlook 2000 - does anybody know how to
do this? I *really* don't want to pay for an upgrade of Outlook just to
change this default behavior.
Thanks
