Clearly allowing unlimited line size enables denial-of-service attacks, so some kind of an upper limit has to be set.

A 5000 byte limit for a single header is very reasonable.

If someone wants to run a mailing list they should use a mailing list management software that's designed for that purpose, instead of trying to shoehorn something out of an ordinary E-mail client.

Totally agreed on that.

I just got concerned that some users seemingly doing some routine things for small groups got this message. We have put in place restrictions and policies nicely forcing customers into using mailing list management tools to do their broadcasts.
