Hi Michael!

Thanks for your answer.

The reason for not having the newest MySQL-Win32 version available is that currently only 0.5 % of the MySQL-Win32 users pays for using MySQL-Win32. If we would provide a newer version, we think that the revenue we get from the Win32 version would drop so much that we can't afford to support it!

That's sad of course. However IMHO providing a newer version would convince more people to buy it because there are essential 'features' missing in the older version.

In most cases shareware version is usually good enough to test that MySQL works. For testing it's not a big problem to have to install MySQL on C:!

I agree if e.g. *this* would be the only drawback of the shareware-version.

As the price of MySQL-Win32 is only about $200 USD, (which includes upgrades), it shouldn't be that big a problem to get pay for it and use the newest version in your evaluation. If you find that MySQL doesn't work for you, we will of course refund your money!

Well the price is really OK. However it's hard to afford by a student studying SQL (like me). Please don't say that I should get Linux and get a free version since I would also have to install OS/2, VMS etc. just for studying purposes at home. On the other I am jobbing with that computer-stuff and I am often consulted when there's something to buy. I often have these questions on databases and since companies often look for the cheapest solution I would like to recommend buying MySql for the NT-platform but I cannot since the version I know can't be administrated regarding system-integration and therefor is not worth considering.
