wild speculation below:

The Google Talk for developers FAQ said that chat packets are a custom XMPP stanzas, so if and when the spec is released, it's not impossible to imagine that IM chat rooms could support conference calls and IM chat. Clients could output the type="voice" packets to the speakers and the type="chat" to the IM client window.

I don't know if Google Talk's server specifically does, but more generically, yes, Jabber has Multi-User Conference. I can usually be found in the conference m.@conference.ursine.ca
